More about our wonderful weekend adventures

As I mentioned in my previous post about our Friday adventures, We don't get to go adventuring as much as we did when our family was younger, and now especially with the kids grown and having jobs its harder to get everyone together to enjoy anything at all. Luckily Hannah's schedule worked out where she was able to join us on our adventures all weekend long. Traci even managed to squeeze in some family time on Saturday.

You can read about our Friday adventures HERE

On Saturday we all slept in, and had a lazy morning, and then in the afternoon we went to the Ridge Spring Harvest Festival. The website said that there was live music, a bbq cook-off, rides, crafts, and live music. The live music was until 7pm so we thought getting there around 4 was ok, but when we got there most of the crafters and some of the rides were gone. We still had a great time, and enjoyed the music and food. At home everyone is busy, or in front of a laptop or cell phone or TV, so it was great to spend some quality unplugged time together and get some fresh air.

Here are a few pictures of our day at the Ridge Spring Harvest Festival

Next we have Ms. Sassy Pants Clarissa excited in line to ride the bull..

choo choo train, train ride, festival fun, riding a train, fair fun, love that girl, grandbaby, grandgirl

after that we had corn dogs and chili cheese fries, and most of us had strawberry lemonade, except Hannah who was feeling brave and tried the banana lemonade, which wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, but not something I'd order, EVER!!! There was another thing on the menu I would also NEVER order, but it does sound interesting in a cardiac arrest sort of way... Glazed donut chicken sandwich... There was red velvet cake funnel cake, that I am hoping is at the Aiken State fair this year because I would definately try that but I didn't try it at the Harvest Festival because I was too full of other yummy things...

The most interesting thing we saw at the Ridge Spring Harvest Festival was a tractor some one had turned into a mosaic tiled work of art. It was on display atop a cement and brick pedestal and I imagine took the artist quite a while to make. I wish I could link too or atleast tell you who the artist was but I didn't see any signage, or credit given so I have no idea. But isn't it awesome?

Ridge Spring harvest festival art installation, tractor art, town square art,

I'm thinking Clarissa and I should try our hand at making a mosaic tile something. She is at a good age for some abstract mosaic crafting. We even got a pic of the grand girls in front of this masterpiece tractor art.

my grandgirls. love these babies, out and about on saturday, fall is in the air,

After editing the picture in lightroom however, the tractor was not visible.

fall festival fun, bluegrass music, family, and food truck delights

Ridge Spring is not a very big town, a one gas station town, main street is lined with a bank a drug store, one restaraunt, a post office, and several antique, and thrift shops. The main part of main street is about the size of 1 city block. Ridge Spring isn't a place you would go unless you enjoy antiquing and thrifting or had business there. They do however have the best meat market I have ever visited. Cone's meat market, we just love their rope sausage and vinegar hash. If you are ever there be sure to check out their meat Market.

Clarissa and I tried out a photo booth That was crazy, she didn't understand about the camera being on a timer so we didn't get our costume changes down pat, but it was fun and something we will remember for a long time. So its a great thing. I'm normally behind the camera so the rare occasions when I am in a picture I think is great because I want them to have memories that I was there with them. Something to look at one day when Im old or gone and remember that time with me.

grandkid fun, life off the plantation, a weekend adventure, fun in the sun,

After seeing everything there was to see,and doing everything there was to do, we mosied on over to where the music was happening and sat in the grass to enjoy the live concert. I wish I could tell you the name of the band because I thought they were quite good. But I can tell you Paisley enjoyed her first concert sitting in the grass..

baby paisley enjoying a day of fresh air and sunshine she is one sleepy girl

Poor tired baby was asleep before we made it home.
It was a great day, and cost us very little. Had we packed a picnic it would have been free aside from gas.

A wonderful family weekend

Clarissa call them adventures. Our budget is so tight that we don't get to enjoy too many adventures these days, But thanks to a hard working papa, and the overtime fairy smiling on us we have been able to enjoy a few outings lately and so tonight's post is about our weekend, and the cool fall weather has been perfect for it.

Our adventures lasted all weekend long, and I took so many pictures, I won't share them all with you because I wouldn't want to over share, which is something I am famous for on Facebook. Here is what our weekend looked like.

On Friday, Clarissa, papa, and me went to town, we went to the library, it was Clarissa's first trip to the library, but after watching an episode of Daniel Tiger's neighborhood where trolley took them to the library she played library with her dolls on the daily, so I thought it was important that she see a library first hand, and see exactly what it was all about. So, our trolley.. aka papa's car took us to the library in Aiken where we headed straight for the children's section. There was more there than just books. There were wooden puzzles, and computers, and other activities too, we have decided that we must go back on a day when they are doing storytelling. We just must. Here are a couple pictures of that adventure.

grandkid fun, fun with kids, our girl is growing up, love this child, smart girl, wooden puzzle, library time

a learning adventure, learning , education, family adventure

on the town with weewoo and papa, life off the plantation, reading books

From there we met Hannah, clarissa's aunt, and best friend, and we had lunch at Longhorn steakhouse, It was the first time I had been to Longhorn Steakhouse, and I will likely never go there again unless I can choose anything from the menu and it is free. The food cost too much, and didn't near and well as it should have for the price. (mind you we are on a tight budget so the 15.00 steak dinners were not an option for us, and the things within our budget were not great. If you are a budgeting family, this is not the place to go..) But they did give Clarissa teddy grahams with her kids menu and she and Hannah had a great time trying to toss them into each others mouths.  Longhorn Steakhouse is also home of one of the top 5 most embarrassing moments of my life and you can read about that HERE if you are interested.

We left Longhorn Steakhouse in route to Odell weeks park, the plan was to play on the playground a while, and then walk the track once before leaving. It didn't work out quite to plan, just beyond the steakhouse a wreck had Whiskey road at a standstill in the direction we were going, and hubby impatient man that he is was getting frustrated with traffic, and overthinker, panic attack prone, person that I am, Over thunk it all, and so when we inched up to where the pumpkin selling was happening I asked him to stop in there which we did, Hannah following along in her own car, and they had so many varieties of pumpkins, and ornamental corn, and fall flowers, that it occupied our time for long enough to clean the wreck up and keep everyone calm and relaxed.

grandbaby fun, plantationites out on the town, picking out our fall pumpkins

picking our carving pumpkins, future jack-o-lanterns, jackolaterns

in my day pumpkins only came in orange, pumpkin science, hybrid pumpkin, white veiny pumpkin

With pumpkins purchased our eager crew made it's way on down the road to Odell Weeks to play in the park. Those besties, Aunt Hannah, and Clarissa had the best time ever, and me and Papa Roman had the best time watching and taking pictures of them enjoying their time together,

got to love the lovethey have for each other, best aunt ever, loving these girls

swings at odell weeks, hannah and clarissa, life on the plantation, plantationites goes to the park

the best aunt ever aunt Hannah would move mountains for this precious girl

they need and love each other, no romantic love could hold a candle to auntie niece love

I could write a book about the love these two have for each other and have had since day one. You would think it would be the opposite since aunt Hannah was in the room when Paisley was born, but not!!! These two are closer than close, always have been and always will be, I love the relationship these two girls share, Romantic love knows nothing compared to this auntie niece relationship.

Our adventures for the day stopped here, afer walking 1/4 of he way around he track Clarissa decided she needed to potty so we turned around, and decided as a group that we just weren't up to rewalking tht 1/4th mile again, so we went home and call this adventure a wrap. But we started again on Saturday and that too proved to be a fantastic family day for up all. Look for the details of our trip to the Ridge Spring Harvest Festival in my next, upcoming post.

When I have posted that post I will link to it HERE

until then I hape you enjoy this installemnt of #lifeontheplantation
