Pumpkin decorating with the girls

I have been meaning to post this and haven't yet. But More on our families wonderful weekend. Clarissa, Hannah, and I decorated pumpkins together. They are certainly not professional quality, but they were fun, and isn't fun important?
Certainly it is. This pumpkin decorating and pumpkin carving adventure might just go down in history as one of their favorite stories to tell. So perfect or not.. It was perfect. I think that is called Wabi Sabi, and I think I approve.

So here are some pictures of our sunday pumpin doing adventures...

rick's produce whiskey road, road side pumpkin stand a wide variety of pumpkins to choose from

Here are some pictures of us picking out our pumpkins from Rick's Produce on Whiskey Rd, They are worth checking out they must have 20 different pumpkin varieties and even if you don't buy a pumpkin it is a worthwhile learning adventure.

the picking of our pumpkins was a family activity we enjoyed and the carving and painting of them was even better, family halloween fun

It might spark a curiosity in your young learner. It sparked an interest in my college child and she came home and researched words like "pumpkin varieties", "pumpkin hybrids", and the name of the pumpkin she picked out which was called "one too many pumpkins"... Isn't it pretty??

she made her carved pumpkin look like a flower, how creative is that craft flower pumpkin

It sparked and interest in me and I came home and researched "how to roast pumpkin seeds" and "how to make a pumpkin last longer"... For our sweet little clarissa I think it was more of an art lesson and sensory lesson as our three year old princess had the best time painting pumpkins and playing in the pumpkin guts while I tried to sort the seeds from the pulp. But fun was had and there is no denying that.

toddler painting pumpkins for halloween, oh what fun it is, historic pumpkin day

the funnest sunday with pumpkins ever great time with daughter and grand daughter, loving life on the plantation

We thought the best use of clarissa's talents would be to paint on pumpkins while Aunt Hannah and I scooped out the guts of our pumpkins,

aunt hannah gutting her pumpkin, family time, making family memories, just enjoying each others time

 and we were right.

jackolantern fun, sunday family art day, lets paint pumpkins, kid art, future artist

I used my silhouette cutting machine to cut out designs to use as stencils on the smaller pumpkins and stuck them on, then poured out several colors of paint for her to go wild with and she decorated the heck out of those three small pumpkin.

she is the best thing that ever happened to this family, 2 year old granddaughter artist

When they dried we removed the vinyl decal stickers to reveal her name on one and a jack-o-lantern face on another.

3 year old clarissa's pumpkin art, pumpkin artist, childs name pumpkin, kid crafts

The third we just cut open scoop out the innards and used as a candle holder painted by artist in training Clarissa.

When she had fully painted her own pumpkins she decided that my pumpkin needed a little paint too, and so we bloodied him up with some red paint perfection and all was right with the world, and here are out end results of halloween pumpkin, jack-o-lantern decorating 2016

the most fun you could ever have halloween crafts with a toddler, vinyl decal stencil painting pumpkins,

they are the perfect art pumpkins ever if you as me, family fun is a must,

crafting with toddler, how to paint a pumpkin, family activity, jack-o-lantern

the weekend report, family fun, crafting with toddlers, 3 year old art, quality time, time well spent,

Next year we plan to make our pumpkins even more fabulous, we will have had an entire other year of artistic practice by then, For this year we think these pumpkins are the best things ever.

Show us your pumpkins...

wind chimes

check out this great little DIY project I found online this morning. Another thing to add to my "to do" list. The list is getting long. Have you made this? How did it turn out? any tips or ideas yu want to share? Today's project will be windchimes. The kids and I will scavange around the house and see what fun things we can come up with to make windchimes. So far im thinking spoons might be a neat thing to use in a windchime. People play spoons as musical imstruments so the clinky clanky sound of spoons will be perfect. Here is one I found online, and we can add glitter. Glitter makes everything better, and some clear sparkly beasd to something like this and it will be fabulous.

Ohhh or this is nice too. Not sure what kind of sound it would make but check it out they used the sink plugger thingy.. how cool and recyley is that?

how pretty is this one?

here is a splendid crystal windchime I found on etsy.. I doubt ours will be this wonderful but if anyone wanted to buy me a gift.. This just made top of my wishlist..

Do you have ideas on what we can use to make some beautiful windchimes to go in our child friendly everything is touchable garden?
I find windchimes to be so calming Im pretty excited about this project.

But next on the project list will have to be this little feeder. Its too cute not to make.

So these are on our agenda, windchimes and a bird feeder. If you have any suggestions, ideas, tips, or tricks to offer please post them. Its great to let kids have a free spirit and try things and enjoy creating without limits. But as a parent its also good to go into a project with some kind of rough sketch in your mind of what you are trying to accomplish and what obstacles you might meet on the journey. Havea great sunday all. See ya back here later.

dollar store crafts - Finger puppets

rainy day crat project, rainy day idea, crafting with kids, crafting with grandkids, dollar store crafts
If your kids are like mine it can be frustrating to spend hours making them some awesome thing you just know they will love only to have them throw it down after about 15 minutes. So here is a fun, cheap, dollar store craft that only uses pipe cleaners, glue, pompoms, and craft eyes. Infact the kids can help you make them. and if you are really thrifty like me, when they are done playing with them you can deconstruct them and make something else with them later.

Have fun, go wild, use your imagination. You can twist them and bend them into any type of finger puppet you want. make finger puppet people, finger puppet pets, finger puppet farm animals,  you could make an entire finger puppet family. you could probably use a cereal box to make a finger puppet theater if you get your creative juices flowing.

What fun for just pennies per puppet..

The basic idea is to coil the pipe cleaner around your finger, leaving enough room at the end to shape your head. then glue on some eyes, maybe a pompom nose, or you could even cut felt pieces to glue on for facial features and hands and or feet..

This is a fun, quick, creative craft project perfect for sunday school, summer camp, rainy days,
