Clarissa-isms is it a poop or a fart (clarissa explains it all)

I call them "Clarissa-isms" because no one else in the history of my life could do and say these things and still be considered the best thing that ever happened to me.

But let me tell you what she did yesterday!!!

It is a fact... Kids say the darnedest things!!!

I just died a little, poop story, god save the queen,is this thing on?

I'm gonna tell a story that I probably should not tell for fear of embarrassing myself. But if Grandma Eunice taught me anything it was to swallow that pride girl and tell that story if it will put a smile on someone's face or a laugh in their heart. So... Here I go, blushing as I tell you about this adventure with Clarissa.
Clarissa, Roman, Hannah, and I, went adventuring today, and one of our adventures was a trip to Longhorn Steakhouse, It was 4pm so it wasn't overly crowded but crowded enough to make the story I am about to tell... not one of my finest moments..
So, we are sitting in the Longhorn steakhouse, Clarissa and Hannah trying to toss teddy Grahams into each others mouths and Roman and I enjoying their antics. We were munching on some buttered bread they brought us and just enjoying life. When my stomach suddenly started to hurt, and I said "dang my stomach hurts".. To which clarissa responds.. "weewoo if your stomach hurts you need to go to the potty." Mind you the restaurant was semi crowded so I quietly whisper to Clarissa, "Im gonna wait a minute cuz Im not sure yet it's a poop or a fart." To which she replies in her OUTDOOR voice... "If you have to poop or fart you need to go to the bathroom WeeWoo"
So there I am embarrassed and I get up and make my way to the bathroom partially because I'm leaning toward the notion that its a poop, and partially because I'm trying to hide from the embarrassing thing she just said to everyone in Longhorn Steakhouse. Well.. I get to the bathroom, and lookie who has followed me.. The stall is kinda big, and there is no one else following me to the bathroom the get her so what can one do but take her into the stall with me. Where I tend to my business, courtesy flushing and all, and praying no one associates the smells ruminating with me and my stall. But as would be my luck.. Clarissa, God Love that innocent angel, makes sure everyone in that very active bathroom knows every detail of what's going on in there..
Clarissa - "WeeWoo are you blowing it up"
Me- puts fingers to lips and make a shushing noise
Clarissa- are you blowing it up?
Me - Yes baby please shhhhh
Her- I gotta cover my nose
Me- still shushing and courtesy flushing
Her- WeeWoo I wanna go out of here
Me- Don't you dare open that door (serious praying is happening at this point)
Her- WeeWoo, I cant go to the bathroom with you anymore
Me- still shushing and courtesy flushing and trying to stay in the stall until i think no one is in the bathroom with us.. "ok baby Im sorry please shhhhh"
Probably one of the most embarrassing moments of my life, I am extremely bowel shy and this was pure torture for me..
But still kinda funny cuz God love that sweet innocent baby who didn't have a clue...

Bold but family friendly chili

Tonight we had Chili, per Hannah's request. It was a good day for it because it was rainy and not blistering hot out and so that was a plus, although I would have fixed her chili even if it had been a billion degrees outside. She is a very motivated young lady, she has a job, and goes to college, and tries her best to pay for her own things with the exception of car insurance and cell phone, so if it's chili she wants, then its chili she gets.

to die for chili, chili you will love, the best chili ever, great chili, kid friendly chili,

I posted a chili recipe before that is hella good. But I tried a new recipe today and it was a big hit too. Maybe even a bigger hit. It fed the masses for sure. In fact there were no leftovers, I had a couple of our plantationites, come to me asking if there was more chili and sadly there was not, and even hubby who's flattery on my cooking is usually  along the lines of "I cleaned my plate didn't I?" or "it filled the empty spot" made the remark that "that chili sure was good", but he hoped it didn't give him heartburn later" So basically I tuned him out after the "that chili was good", called it a compliment, and patted myself on the back. Pleased to say tho I did not see him hitting the Tums bottle at all afterwards so that's great too.

best ever chili, great chili recipe, chili recipe, mild chili recipe, medium spice chili recipe,
If I had to define my cooking style I would call it experimental, and although I don't show you the fails often, believe me I fail.. often.. But not with this chili. My experimental nature in cooking is one reason I started blogging my recipes, so that when I hit on a keeper and they say "mom I sure wish you would fix that again" I can come to my blog and "whoop there it is" the recipe that I otherwise would have no clue how to re-create.  I hope you enjoy some of these yummy recipes too.

I planned to cook corn bread to go with it, but as the day progressed and my purple cornmeal didn't show up in the mail as expected I just decided to go with oyster crackers which are always a winner. But I am super excite for my purple corn meal to show up. I have never cooked with purple corn meal, or even heard of purple corn.. But OMG!!!! PURPLE CORN MEAL how can that be anything but wonderful... So as I was saying there was no cornbread today but here is that awesome chili recipe that is share worthy and I hope you enjoy..

chili recipe with oyseter crackers, chili with cheese recipe, chili ideas, chili cooking,

Mama's medium spicy chili

2 lbs ground beef
2 cans rotel tomatoes
2 cans tomatoes sauce
2 cans stewed tomatoes
2 cans light or dark red kidney beans ( i used dark)
1/2 cup celery finely dices ( I like to use the celery leafs and smaller ends it just makes it prettier)
1 small can v8 juice
2 cloves garlic (cuz I had them on hand)
1 tbsp garlic powder
salt to taste
1/2 tbsp cayenne pepper
1 tbsp red pepper flakes
1 1/2 tbsp franks red hot hot sauce
1 tbsp cocoa powder
1/2 tbsp instant coffee
1/2 cup diced onions
1 tbsp brown sugar (honey or molasses will also work)

brown ground beef, diced onions, and finely chopped garlic until meat is well done.. drain in a colander and return to pot, or your slow cooker, add all other ingredients and simmer at a low setting for 3 hours.

***I have a plain old electric stove and I usually let mine simmer at around 2 on the dial. Stirring occasionally. You could also cook this in your crock pot or slow cooker if you wanted.

***If the spice is too much for you, although it shouldn't be, sour cream, or cheese will cut the heat

Toppings and add-in ideas for chili
serve with scallions, green onions, sour cream, cheddar, french friend onions, black olives, crushed Doritos, Frito's, avocado, shredded lettuce, ranch dressing, jalapenos, bacon bits, corn bread, saltines, oyster crackers, cheez-its, or any other thing that makes your little heart happy..

Ideas for left over chili (we did not have left over chili)

put in a skillet and top with corn bread or biscuits or Bisquick dough and cheese and bake until golden and bubbly,

 use to top hot dogs,

put in casserole dish and top with mashed potatoes cheese and french fried onions until golden brown

nacho night, Doritos or tortilla chips, chili, cheese, jalapenos, sour cream, green onions, avocado, black olives, nacho cheese sauce, (the sky is the limit)

roll out pre-made biscuit dough and fill with chili and cheese for a fantastic empanada

add chili to your favorite omelet

add to fritatas

top hash browns or fries or tater tots with chili

top a baked potato with chili and cheese and sour cream and chives

add chili to your grilled cheese

add chili to you mac n cheese

mix with canned corn and jiffy mix top with cheese and bake as you would cornbread

These are just some ideas, that hopefully were useful to you.. Let me know in comments...

Prayer request, Giving thanks, and Cobb salad

Tonight the hubby and I are binge watching some NCIS from season 1 episode 1, I think we are on episode 6 now. NCIS is one of the few things we agree on, and we have 12 seasons on netflix to agree about. What a great weekend project. Actually we will probably stay up until 4am watching and sleep half the day tomorrow. Because that is the kind of hardcore binge watchers we are.. Not to mention, its the only time it's quiet here so it's when we have our time together. Don't get me wrong we don't binge watch often, our last Netflix binge was "Breaking Bad" a good while ago when it was on Netflix.

In other news on the plantation I've been feeling kind of down, and just blah.. Then it occurred to me that I had not left the plantation in over a month. The budget just hasn't been in a condition where there was any funding to leave the house. Not to mention, I really do like being home. It's my place, it's where all my people and my things are. Plus the one good eye and the cataract in the other its just easier to stay home where I'm familiar with my surroundings. (#blindpeopleproblems) But once in a while even an old homebody like me needs to get out and see a piece of the world.

Today was that day. Still van-less although the donor organ for my van is here and the old girl is ready for her transmission transplant, the surgery hasn't been performed yet and so it was on my oldest, Traci, to cart mama around today. The three of us, Paisley, Traci, and myself loaded up and went to town to buy some shirts to fill a couple orders I had, and maybe get some lunch. It was overcast so even with no air conditioner it wasn't bowels of hell hot out and I want to report that it did the trick. I feel energized, and more alive.

American Bible Society, Bibles.com

We lunched with Hannah who happened to be going on her work break at about the same time we were heading to lunch so that was a plus that I was able to have some time with both of my girls, and an even nicer surprise when hubby showed up and lunched with us too. All things considered It was a great day.

Crisis brings out the best in people. My sons long term girlfriend was in a terrible car accident  and is lucky to be alive, she broke her collar bone, her wrist, her ankle, both hips, they had to remove her appendix, and pull a ton of glass out of her, they had to put pins in the wrist and reconstruct some of her muscles and like i said the doctors say she is lucky to be alive. She will have to have rehab 3 hours away for at least 8 weeks at some point. But she is alive and she is recovering and that is a blessing we are all thankful for. If you are a praying person say a word for her please.

prayers needed, prayer request, family emergency, car crash, god is good

Our coming together today I think is a result of her traumatic event. It has given us an appreciation for each other, reminded us that every moment we get to spend with each other should be cherished because it could be the very last moment we have with our loved ones. My son has been by her side at the hospital since her first day there and I give him props for being that stand up guy who stays by her bedside and is there everytime she opens her eyes.. That is great boyfriend stuff right there... I raised a good man.

I raised a good man, devotion, love, healing, car crash, bedside manner, My wonderful son

I ask again for prayers for her and her mother.. I'm not sure how they will manage, she hasn't asked for help, and I don't want to offend, but she is a single widowed mom and between missing work to be at the hospital now and soon missing work to take her child to rehab for at least 8 weeks I'm not sure how she will manage to tend to her bills. I'm not asking for donations, because she has not asked me too, but I am asking for prayers, lots of good old really strong prayers cuz I know God is good, and he will provide what they need if we all pray hard enough.

There is no recipes today because we had O'Charley's but I do recommend their Cobb Salad, I didn't order it I ordered the fish and chips and it was delicious too but Hannah got the Cobb salad and I had plate envy of epic proportions. Which is also what she got, a plate of epic proportions.. WOWZA!!!

Next time we can afford to splurge for O'Charley's I'm going for a Cobb Salad. Thank God for all the sales on Etsy this week that made this little treat possible for us. Thank God for sparing my son's girlfriends life, and for giving us all one more minute, or hour, or day to be together.. No complaints on the plantation tonight...

deer skinning season.. Meet the Family (this post is not for the squeamish..)

With the change in seasons a change in our lives has come too. Its deer season, and 2 of the children have jobs at the skinning shack for the season, and that means the others are spending a good bit of time at the skinning shack with them. They are just close like that.  Kelsey even tried her hand at deer skinning with a little instruction from my oldest son Chris.

Let me explain a little about my family of 11.. I personally only gave birth to 4 of these folks. There is truth in the saying they don't leave home, they just bring home more. This is the case with all 3 of my adult aged children, and I am sure at some point will become the case with my youngest as well, and I wouldn't have it any other way.

First we have Traci, Hannah, Chris, and Ryan, those are my 4 children that have been with me since birth. Then we have Clarissa and Paisley my oldest daughters 2 children who have also been with me pretty much since birth.

Ok, and now here is where it gets a little complicated. Chris moved in his two friends Alex, and Michael, Michael is now Traci's boyfriend, but no they do not sleep in the same bed, they are very respectful to us, and last but not least we have Kelsey, the tom boy, she can hold her own with the boys at anythingthey do, she has been on the fire department with them, she don't mind skinning deers, and wading rivers, she moved in with Hannah right after they graduated and is a wonderful addition.

So all of those, plus the grouch and myself makes for 11 folks under one roof.

(these boys are not cross dressers, this was just the only pic I have of Michael, this is the night they crashed the girls makeover party, not knowing what they were in for.. Aren't they pretty tho, and they were good sports about it too.)

Those people who say teens are worthless, and they are leeches, and what ever other grumpy old folk thing people say about the younger generation, they have never met these kids. Every one of them with exception to the three year old and the 5 month old, and their mama who has a full time job raising them, have jobs, go to work without protest and a couple of them even have 2 jobs, My Hannah has a job and starts college in a week.  These are good people that will make this world a better place some day, when they are done sewing a few wild oats.

Due to the deer skinning picture above I won't post recipes and food pictures on this post. I wish I had more pictures of all of them, or at least one picture of them all together to share but I don't. Ill have to work on that, and soon, because one of them leaves soon to move to Montana.

And now you know the family... #lifeontheplantation
