10 popcorn ideas and their favorite popcorn recipe

chocolate popcorn, bacon ranch popcorn. popcorn snacking ideas, stove top popcorn, snack ideas,

a favorite snack around here is popcorn, and we used to do the microwave stuff and I have even read about do it yourself microwave popcorn. But I like mine done the old fashioned way, on the stove in a pot with a clear lid. It's just more personal that way. Made with love.

I'm not knocking the other stuff, I like it sometimes in a hurry, I also like the good ol' jiffy pop do you guys remember that stuff? Ahhh the good old days..

I even saw somewhere that they now make microwaveable pork rinds and I was excited to see them on the same site I order my bacon flavoring powder from. If you recall I mentioned it in a previous post. I love that stuff.

As I was saying though, I prefer the old fashioned popcorn cooked on the stove, and its not really any slower in this family to cook it on the stove than to cook it in the microwave, because If i cook enough to feed all 10 of the popcorn eaters in the house I would have to pop 5 bags in the microwave and so, in our case the microwave stuff doesn't save us any time. Plus I just think it tastes better, and is a blank canvas I can add my own flavor signature too.

The basic recipe for popcorn is simple. I'm am going to share the recipe with you but you can substitute the stove top popcorn for the microwave stuff if you want to.

1/4 cup oil (i use vegetable oil, but you could use peanut oil, or canola, or popcorn oil)
1/2 stick of butter (more or less to taste)
seasonings of choice
(our choice 1 tbsp bacon flavoring powder and 2 tbsp ranch powder)

DO NOT add any seasonings to cooking process because it will burn.

add oil and popcorn and set stove to medium high and cover. Covering is important so you don't end up with popcorn exploding everywhere. Heat shaking often until popcorn starts to pop, this will take a few minutes, but once the corn starts to pop shake continually until popping is almost complete. When you there is several seconds between pops remove from heat and let set a few minutes to ensure no rogue kernels decide to pop as an after thought.

that is the recipe for basic plain popcorn.. This is where you can get creative. pour popcorn into a bowl large enough to toss popcorn and seasonings.

toss in your dry seasonings while popcorn is still warm and toss to coat, while you are doing this melt the 1/2 stick of butter in microwave then pour over popcorn

popcorn lovers, snack ideas, big family snack ideas, snacking on a budget, how to cook popcorn,

and toss again to coat and to adhere the dry seasonings to the popcorn

then enjoy.

There are so many combinations of flavors you can add to popcorn, its so versatile, it can be a sweet treat, or it can satisfy that need for something savory.

I recommend that if you are adding liquid ingredients like Worcestershire sauce mix a little at a time and stir between each adding. otherwise you end up with some soggy kernels and some not at all coated kernels.
