homeschooling quicksand

I tend to like to veer my homeschooling efforts on a path that my children will enjoy so when I was watching the weather channel tonight "secrets of the earth death traps" I knew what direction Id take this lesson in.. I remembered seeing signs on some local walking/riding path that said "danger quicksand after heavy rain" I think we might make a trip and check it out. Of course I wont let them get in it but we might be able to poke a stick at it, bring some home to see under a microscope collect some in a jar and experiment with it. Quicksand can cover several school subjects. Science, we can see if we can find quicksand in history, math how quick will a thing sink in quicksand, how heavy does a thing have to be to sink in quicksand , hoe much movement is required fora thing to sink does the rate of movement effect the rate at which you sink. I have found some great links to learn about quicksand, and if you have boys like mine who hunt and fish and wonder through the woods and creek beds like mine, a little education on quicksand could come in handy. It definitely can't hurt if it doesn't help. (that's my motto on most things).   Ive put together some links I found on the subject and I would love to see your links Id love to find a good piece of literature, or historic fiction on the subject so we can incorporate it into our language arts as well if you know of any books that are worth reading on the subject please keep us in mind.

So without further ado---

Here are some good links about quicksand
